Preferences
The Preferences screen is used to influence the way BadgeManager Plus
behaves. This screen is displayed when you select File - Preferences
from the main menu bar.

Click on a screen element to learn more about it.
This controls what happens when BadgeManager Plus is first started:
 | Leader Mode: you are free to make additions, changes
and deletions anywhere in the product.
|
 | Prompt for Mode: you are asked whether or not you want
access to data entry features. If YES, the product goes into Leader Mode. If NO, the
product goes into Scout Mode where no changes can be made.

Inactive Scouts (Checkbox)
This controls whether or not inactive scouts are included in the
BadgeManager Plus lists. If check the box, be sure to examine the scout list to be sure
you're including/excluding the right scouts. This is accomplished via the Maintain
Scout List button.

Access to BadgeManager Master Database (Option)
This controls the level of protection applied to the master badge
database. Under normal circumstances you don't have any reason to alter the master
database, so by default editing is disabled. This is done because the two badge lists
(Your Troop and Badge Master) look identical and are easy to confuse.
You can, if you want, enable access to the master badge list. We recommend
using the Display warning... mode so you know when you're about to alter the
master list. [Return to Top]
Some features in BadgeManager Plus can be time-consuming. On newer, faster
computers you won't notice the time, but on slower machines it might become annoying.
Since the features are optional, you can turn some or all of them off.
 | Copy indicator: It takes a lot of processing time to
figure out which badges you've copied from the master list to the current troop. If you
don't need to know this information you can turn it off.
|
 | Prune badges: Due to the way the various scout and
troop progress screens work, it's possible to add a badge to a scout but not end up with
any completed activities. While this is not really a problem, it does make some lists and
reports less useful than they could be. When enabled, this feature periodically scans,
looking for such badges and deleting them. If you find this annoying, you can disable the
feature. The scan runs whenever you use the scout or troop progress screens.

It's very rare that you'll ever need to use the Configuration
screen. It might be displayed automatically when BadgeManager Plus cannot locate an
important database file while starting. Or, you can display it your self through the File-Configuration
menu choice.
Use the [...] buttons to locate the specified file, or
enter the path and file name manually. BadgeManager Plus will take a sniff at the file and
let you know if it's the right type of file and contains the right kind of records.
