The Financial Transactions screen is used to record income and
expenses for the troop. This feature is not intended to be a complete
accounting system. If you want a comprehensive checking account management
tool you need to consider purchasing a product like Microsoft Money or Quicken
QuickBooks. This feature is intended only to provide basic bookkeeping.

Maintain Categories
Before doing ANY data entry for troop financial transactions you must enter
a list of income and expense categories. You can add additional
categories at any time, and change the names of categories at any time.
Start by entering the obvious categories you know you will need.
Add/change them as needed. Financial reports can be summarized by
category. Click the Maintain Categories command button to display
the screen illustrated below.

Calculate Balance
The Calculate Balance button sums all income and all expense
transactions and displays the resulting balance. As mentioned above,
this screen is not intended to be a full accounting system so the balance is
only as accurate as the sum total of your data entry efforts.
If you are off by a substantial amount from your expected balance,
double-check that you have made an Opening Balance entry to establish the
amount of money already in the troop's checking about.
If you are off by a small amount and want to reconcile, create a
transaction that adds or removes funds. You can use the built-in Miscellaneous
category for this purpose, or even create a new category named, for
example, Reconciliation.
Dues and Fees from Meetings
To streamline your data entry efforts, you can record scout-level financial
details in the meeting attendance grid and have TroopManager Plus calculate a
deposit transaction that represents the sum total of all dues or other
expenses received at a meeting. See the Meeting
Planner screen for details. Specifically, look for details on making
a deposit.
Fees from Events/Trips
Similar to the dues/fees for meetings described above, you can also record
a deposit based on fees collected for an event or trip. See the Event/Trip
Planner screen.
