The troop details form is used to manage
all of the data and people associated with each troop. The buttons across the
top of the form are used to relate the troop to different people and
organizations in SUManager. If you have several troops to enter, be sure
to check out the Troop Quick Entry form, which
provides a very highly efficient spreadsheet-like form.
Important: In order to make
the role and to-do list management as efficient as possible, these lists only
show people associated with the troop rather than all people in the entire
SUManager database. For example, suppose that the complete list of people
numbers 114. Below, the People button shows that of the 141 people, only
21 have been associated with the troop. The Current Roles button
shows that 4 of the 21 have roles in this troop. The count includes all
types of people, both active and inactive. When working with roles, role history
and the to-do list, only the 21 people are listed. This way you can focus
on the people relevant to the troop.

Number, Leader, Levels -- Troop Name
You have two options for how you
identify troops. If you leave the Name field blank, SUManager will
dynamically assign a name based on the troop number, leader's name and
program level. If you enter a name, SUManager uses that name instead.
If you do not assign a leader then SUManager uses only the program level.
If the troop includes more than one level, Mixed is displayed instead
of the level name. If anything changes (leader's name, levels etc) the
name is immediately changed everywhere: the troop name is used on the main
switchboard, many on-screen lists, and in reports.
Below, an example of each variation.
Troops 131, 275 and 324 are "typical" troops where a leader has been
assigned and there's only one program level. Troop 141 has a leader assigned
but has multiple levels. Troop 496 is a single level but has no leader
assigned. Troop 343 has a custom name assigned.

That's the good news about troop names.
The bad news is that if you have a large number of troops and/or run
SUManager on an older, slower computer this dynamic naming might cause lists
to be displayed too slowly. If you notice a significant lag when troops are
listed you can speed things up via the
Configuration form, Optimize Troop Lists button. This process
causes all of the names to be assigned with whatever information is present
at the moment. SUManager will no longer assign the name dynamically.
You can run the process anytime you want, to get the names updated.
Any troop can support any number of
program levels. The Check... button scans all of the scouts
associated with the troop to see if they are at a program level supported by
the troop. This makes it easy to verify that all of the scouts have
been assigned the correct program level and have been attached to an
appropriate troop.
In the event that the GSUSA adds a new
program level or changes the names of existing levels you can maintain the
list of levels through the Configuration
form.
When a troop leader has been assigned,
as illustrated in the full screen shot above, the button shows the leader's
name and when clicked SUManager displays that person's detail report.
If a leader has not yet been assigned, the button caption reads Select
Leader and when clicked, SUManager displays the
Current Roles editor.
