Problems Installing

Typical problems that people have reported when installing BadgeManager Plus or TroopManager Plus.

bulletWindows Vista:  TroopManager and BadgeManager do not run properly under Windows Vista.  Install both products, and before running them, download and apply the Vista fix which is located here:
   http://www.ScoutTroop.com/Download/VistaFix.htm
 
bulletImmediately after trying to start the installation process, an error message is displayed.
 
bulletInstallation appears to be complete, but the product doesn't run properly (or, at all) when started.

Immediate Error

This is almost always due to a corrupt file. The Internet file download process is insanely complex and all it takes is a single misplaced byte and the entire file has to be discarded. Delete the file you downloaded and try downloading again. See also download problems.

Doesn't Run Properly

This one is more difficult to troubleshoot. Both TroopManager Plus and BadgeManager Plus record startup information in a log file for this purpose. E-mail the files to FSC@tds.net and we'll be happy to help. The files are simple text files (feel free to take a look inside) and are located in the root directory of your C: drive. Look for these files:

C:\TroopMgr.log
C:\BadgeMgr.log

If you cannot locate these files, then look for the following files in the directory folder where you installed the products (typically, C:\TroopMgr)

TMStart.txt
BMStart.txt

Note that if you are running both TroopManager Plus and BadgeManager Plus, you need to run TroopManager Plus first so it creates the TROOP.MDB database file that BadgeManager Plus expects to see. Then run BadgeManager Plus so it can modify the TROOP.MDB database file with the additional data it needs to operate.
