Both TroopManager Plus and BadgeManager Plus use the Microsoft Jet database engine for
data storage. This means that making a backup copy or otherwise working with your data is
as easy as keeping track of a single file.
TroopManager Plus
TroopManager Plus stores 100% of your data in a single file called TROOP.MDB.
This file is located in the directory where you installed TroopManager Plus. Usually the
directory is C:\TroopMgr but it's possible to change this location while
installing the product.
If you make a copy of TROOP.MDB, you have everything you need to recover from any
disaster. Click here for disaster recovery
details.
Can't find the TROOP.MDB file?
Depending on how your computer is
configured, you might not see the .MDB file extension and the file will
appear to be named, simply, TROOP.
BadgeManager Plus
BadgeManager Plus stores troop and scout information in the TROOP.MDB
database, so there are no special database backup requirements for BadgeManager Plus.
BadgeManager Plus stores the master badge list in a separate database called BADGE.MDB.
If you lose or damage this file you can download a copy from our
web site.
Useful Background Information
Here's some background on how our products work:
1) Our product installation routine does not include a copy of TROOP.MDB and there is
no harm in re-installing the products because the process avoids doing anything to your
database.
2) When TroopManager Plus starts up it looks for TROOP.MDB and if it can't find it, it
creates a new, empty database.
3) If TroopManager Plus does find TROOP.MDB it examines the file to see which version
it contains (we've made changes over the years). If it detects an older version it tries
to modify the structure so it's up-to-date. This is a tricky process and on rare occasions
something goes wrong. If you receive an error message at any time during the startup
process, send the file to us. We'll examine it, fix it, and send it back.
4) Making backup copies of your database is as easy as making a copy of the TROOP.MDB
file. Under normal circumstances it remains well under 1.4 Mb in size so it ought to fit
(with room to spare) on a standard 3.5" removable disk.
5) Restoring a backup database involves copying the file into the C:\TroopMgr directory
folder. When you start TM it will see the file and use it.
